This sugary-sweetm side-scrolling platform adventure game. Dec 11, 2016 Welcome to Yoshi's Woolly World! The purpose of this guide is to walk you through obtaining 100% completion in this game. It's not necessarily meant for those who just want to.
“Yoshi's Woolly World” proves once again that Nintendo has not lost its touch. This sugary-sweet side-scrolling platform adventure game repeats a lot of what makes the “Yoshi Island” games so great. For WiiU owners and fans of the series, this is another must-buy.
Like the excellent “Kirby’s Epic Yarn” game, “Woolly World” is filled with yarn, fabric and cloth-themed levels.
The game begins as the evil wizard Kamek comes riding in on his broom to turn all of the soft Yoshi characters into wads of string. After he stuffs most all of the lovable dinosaurs into his bag, it is your job to go through the many levels to defeat him and rescue your friends.
Like all Yoshi adventures, you can run like Mario and jump a little higher. However, as Yoshi you also have the ability to capture many types of small enemies with your tongue and turn them into a ball of yarn. The ball of yarn can be used as a projectile against enemies or to trigger simple switch puzzles.
In a departure from the norm, baby Mario is not part of this adventure.
The difference between a good and a great Yoshi game is in the level design. “Woolly World” is above average as far as the series goes. There are numerous hidden passages and lots of gems to collect. In each level, there are five flowers to find that will increase the chance of you playing a bonus game for extra gems at the end of the level. The main hunt is for the five spools of colored yarn that will assemble a playable Yoshi character.
Either alone or with a friend, you can use almost any combination of Nintendo controllers for the game. Obviously having listened to the tremendous outcry of hardcore gamers, it is great to see Nintendo supporting all the different types of peripherals that it sells.
There is a normal and an easy difficulty level in “Woolly World,” which makes exploring the game incredibly accessible. I applaud this since Yoshi games can be a little bit more difficult than the Kirby games. If a level gets tough, you can make it easier by spending gems to acquire power-ups before a level begins.
“Yoshi’s Woolly World” is hard to criticize. The graphics are stunning. When you see the fine strands of yarn chaotically emanating from Yoshi's extremities, you know there was a lot of time and effort put into making this game as good as possible. The music is joyful and matches the overall bliss in this game
If you needed another reason to own a WiiU, “Woolly World” is a pretty good one. It saddens me that Nintendo's first party titles are winding down as their next console looms on the horizon. I am hoping that a price drop or killer bundle will arrive soon to spur more people to jump on board the WiiU this holiday season.
But if you would rather get your Yoshi fix without purchasing a new console, I would thoroughly recommend tracking down the best Yoshi game of all time: “Yoshi's Island DS.”
